A busy beak is a happy beak

Parrot toys can be an integral part of everyday life for many birds. Toys can offer enrichment opportunities, foraging opportunities, and just plain fun.

Parrots are destroyers by nature, in the wild often they must destroy the shell of native nuts to gain access to the sweet nut inside. Many species nest in hollow trees, but to make their chosen home more comfortable, they have to tear and rip and tree bark and wood . Their beaks are designed specifically for destroying.

In our homes often that destruction is done to our woodwork, cabinets and furniture! Providing your companion parrot with wood and shredded type toys can mimic things they would do naturally. Things that are basic instinct And it may save your favorite couch! When we add in foraging opportunities, the level of enrichment skyrockets. Contrafreeloading- yes its a very big word, but with a simple meaning. It means that an animal would prefer to work for their food versus eating it straight out of a bowl. I often hear " my bird won't forage he doesn't know how". Your bird knows how to forage.

It is a basic instinct they are born with. The difference is, he may not know what you want him to forage from. So teaching them that the wad of coffee filter has a goodies in it will spark his interest. It won't be long until he looks in every toy item you hand him.

Providing wood toys also is super beneficial. Not only does it provide them the opportunity to chip wood (which many parrots are like buzz saws), but it can really help keep the beak in prime condition. Paper and shredding type toys are very popular. Many birds enjoy ripping and tearing paper turning it into confetti. Toys are expensive. Yes they are. But so is a vet bill to help fix feather destructive behavior or mutilation from a bored bird. "If you place a toy in the cage, and a bird loses interest in it, at that point its just decoration. It serves no purpose other than taking up space. So rotate toys out often.

Safety.

Toy safety is crucial. Once parts have been chewed off of a piece of rope or string, cut those loose pieces off. Exposed chain can cause a nail or toe to become stuck. So exposed chain should be removed or refilled. Watch for large loops etc that can cause a strangulation issue.

We offer a large selection of safe, enriching, and unique toys. Safety is our number one priority. We also offer many various toy making parts for the do it yourself-er.
